Pastor Carl Johnson was born September 23, 1960, in Miami, Florida to Hattie M. Johnson and the late Fernie Johnson Sr. In the late 1960’s, he joined 93rd Street Community Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. Alonzo Anderson. At the age of seven, he had begun to take part in the church activities.
He graduated from Miami Central Senior High School in 1978. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. After his honorable discharge: he returned to Miami, and he was hired by the United States Postal Service as Letter Carrier. He became a Supervisor in 1986, and later an acting Manager before resigning in 1996. He attended Miami Dade Community College and the University of Maryland. He received a Bachelor and Masters Degree from Jacksonville Theological Seminary. In addition, he received an Honorary Doctor’s Degree from St. Thomas Christian College.
In 1987, he was called and received licensed into the ministry at the 93rd Street Community Baptist Church. He was appointed youth minister and Assistant to the Pastor. After the passing of Rev. Anderson, he became interim Pastor. On May 16, 1993, he was installed as Pastor. God gave him a vision for the 93rd Baptist Church, “Be Faithful to Become Fruitful”, under-girded with the mission statement, “The Church Where the Holy Spirit Leads and the Body of Christ Follows”. Under his leadership the church has grown from 200 to 7,500 members. The old sanctuary was renovated in 1986, and the church purchased numerous properties in the surrounding area. In December 2007, the church moved to a beautiful brand new cathedral of approximately 1500 seating capacity which includes administrative offices, bookstore and a chaplain. Due to the growth of the church, many more ministries have been added.
Pastor Johnson was the President of the Caretaker for Christ Incorporation.
He has served as the President of of the the Ministers & Deacons Union of the Seaboard Baptist Association for eight year. February 12, 2016, he was elected the Moderator of the Seaboard Baptist Association.
Presently, he is the Chaplain for the Florida Highway Patrol Department, and the Chaplin for The Doral Police Department. Pastor Johnson was the State Evangelistic Coordinator for the Florida General Baptist Convention and is presently serving as the Appointed State Moderator.
Pastor Johnson is married to Esther Roundtree-Johnson and has three children, Carl Jr., Isaiah, and Faith.
